Compare and contrast the presentation of love in The Great Gatsby and Othello

Need to plan the response: 1. identifty the type / form of love (i.e. is it romantic, unrequited, lustful, familial etc.) 2. look at how the two texts interact: how do they differ in form, style, language, structure 3. use the identification of the type of love alongside a connection between the two texts to form a coherent thesis / line of argument For example: We can firstly identify that in The Great Gatsby it shows unrequited love with Daisy and Gastby, it is also obsessive in its nature. Whereas Othello is centred around jealousy and love, a misunderstanding, and a rival. With the main focal points of love identified within both texts we should next turn to how these overlap, is there a comparison between the love shown within the text? Yes: we can connect the jealousy and rival in Othello to the unrequited love of Daisy in The Great Gatsby. Both texts fail to sustain love, love exists between Othello and Desdemona as does it between Daisy and Gastby, yet between both couples there exists an element of jealousy and rivaly. Now we have established the types of love, the connection between the texts. By looking at the theme of the question (i.e. love) have made a point of comparison for both texts, and can create a thesis on the back of this: "This essay will argue that both The Great Gastby and Othello present unsustainable love that is troubled by jealousy and rivarly" and from this should look to structure, form and language to flesh out the points of each paragraph.
