How can I structure a piece of creative writing?

My best suggestion when it comes to structure is to plan your piece. This helps you to get your ideas straight and means you will stick to them rather than going off on a tangent! A good way to start your plan is to draw a mindmap, which is very simple but helps you to brainstorm. Next, a good idea is to make bullet points to structure your ideas. You should put these in the order in which you want to write about them - this gives you a plan which you can work from, and a tight structure to adhere to from your very first word.
