On a packet of brown rice it says 'When 60g of rice is cooked, it will weigh 145g.' If Katy has 100g of brown rice, how much will it weigh when cooked?'

  1. Find by what ratio the weigh of rice has increased.

If the rice increases in weight from 60g to 145g, the factor by which it increases is: (145/60) = 2.4166...

  1. Multiply the amount of rice Katy has by this factor.

Katy has 100g of rice, therefore: 100 x 2.4166... = 241.66... = 242g (3sf)
