Study Figure 3 which shows a satellite image of an area of vegetation that has been affected by human activity. Describe and comment on the impact of the human activity shown. (7 marks)

The image is of what looks to be a quarry. In the left of the image there is a lake, possibly with waste materials from the quarry. There are roads leading away from the area on the right, presumably to carry materials away. There is little vegetation in the left side of the image, as most of the soil has eroded away. The development is large, over 6km across. There are terraced layers in the centre of the image from where the material has been taken away, increasing depth by layering. Lake behind a dam, hydroelectric power scheme.
