What is Maslow's hierarchy of needs? will it be in the exam?

Maslow's hierarchy of needs is a theory associated with motivation. This theory states that there are five levels needed inorder to reach the optimum level of motivation in a work place. (From low to high) the pyramid levels in order are physiological needs, safety, belonging, esteem and then self actualisation. To achieve a level, the one below it must be satisfied first. If you had a job with a high salary but no toilet, would you be motivated? A part of you would be anxious to leave work as soon as possible, therefore physiological needs to be met. What if you hated your co-workers? You would probably take more sick days and make excuses to not go to work.

As for the exam, it may be in the multiple choice questions section. In the written answers part, it may be a 9 mark question specifically asking about it. In the longer questions they may not ask about it specifically, however mentioning it in a 20 mark question about motivation would get you extra marks. This theory could be used along side Taylor's and Herzberg's theories of motivation.
