There are two possible answers here. 1) Add Tollens reagent - the student would see a silver mirror form in the test tube containing the aldehyde. 2) Add Benedicts reagent - te student would see a brick red precipitate form in the test tube containing the aldehyde. In both cases there would be no visible change in the test tube containing the ketone.
