Make F the subject of the formula: C= 5(F-32) / 9

  1. The first step to making F the subject of this formula is multiplying both sides by 9 to get rid of the denominator on the right hand side. Therefore, 9C= 5(F-32) 2. Secondly, we have to divide both sides by 5, so that there is no 5 outside of the brackets on the right hand side. This leaves (F-32) on the right hand side by itself: 9C/5 = F- 32 3. Finally, to isolate F, thereby making it the subject of the formula, we have to add 32 to both sides, to cancel out the -32: 9C/5 + 32= F
