Two points P(–4, –1) and Q(–8, 5) are joined by a straight line. Work out the coordinates of the midpoint of the line PQ.

First, you must remember what the midpoint formula is for a line with two points.

M= ((x1+x2)/2 ,(y1+y2)/2)

Then apply it to this question.

M= ((-4+-8)/2 , (-1+5)/2)

Simplify and solve.

M= ((-12/2) , (4/2))

M= (-6,2)
