Discuss the role of women in 'An Inspector Calls'.

Introduction - Define key points e.g. Feminist readings of the play, introduce main characters and relationships e.g. Eva Green as victim of the patriarchal oppression that Mrs Birling and Sheila are also under. Paragraph 1 - Marital relationships distorted by Priestly to show the infiltration of consumerism in a domestic setting e.g. Sheila's influence in firing Eva. Paragraph 2 - The role of men in the play - women as objects of sexual desire e.g. Gerald as 'fairy prince' and Eric's lack of responsibility. Link to other text e.g. male role in 'A Doll's House'. Paragraph 3 (Crunch) - Women as a group oppressed regardless of class and social status - 'chain of events' that the Inspector/Priestly warns about only broken if post-WWII Britain changes. Discussion of context. Conclusion.
