How can I write a good essay?

In order to write a good, accurate and developped essay in French you first need to begin by fully understanding the question. A lot of people tend to skim read the question, getting a gist of what it is asking you to write about, however, failing to really understand it and analyse it. Re-read the question, think of different paths you can take it, and then, brainstorm. Brainstorming is an essential step in developing your ideas, jot down anything that pops into your head.

However, there really is no definite answer to this question, because frankly each essay question is different and therfore merits a uniquely worded or structured answer. However, whether it is an environmental question, a creative writing peice, or an analysis of art, literature or cinematography there is always a necessity for clarity and concision. Grammar is key in essays as they demonstrate a grasp of the language, and therefore it is crucial that a lot of focus is payed on grammar and is double-checked before submitting the work. The word limit is a very limiting factor which tends to stress students who have lots of information bursting in their brains, however, it is paramount that they organise the information coherently and that they only include relevant information that will answer the question directly, otherwise, marks will be lost due to irrelevant waffling and going above the word limit.
