A key question that is always asked when writing UCAS applications is; “How should I plan for a personal statement?”, “What should I include?”. I was definitely stuck when it came to planning my personal statement; especially since UCAS doesn’t exactly provide a large word count to showcase yourself! I think the most important aspect of having a good personal statement is having a good plan; once you have that, writing a personal statement won’t be as intimidating. Planning a personal statement entails, listing all the topics you want to address and linking them back to the relevance of your degree, prioritising what topics are more important to discuss and also making sure you’ve got a great structure.
I remember how stressful and daunting writing a personal statement was so, I’ve created a plan to help guide you on what to do. As well as having a good plan for a personal statement, language is just as important as content. If you fail to articulate yourself well, universities won’t feel confident in offering you a place. I therefore have created separate lesson plans on how to write a personal statement and the sources you should use. Writing a personal statement may definitely feel stressful and frightening as it’s not the same as writing an essay or preparing for an exam, where you have lots of sources to fall back on for direction but trust me, it’s not! At times it can be a stressful experience but, it can also be a fun and rewarding one too. My aim as your tutor is to help guide you through a key moment in your education path and help you write a great personal statement that showcases you to the best of your ability!
