Suggest why people who have Atrial Fibrillation (AF) have an irregular pulse.

Atrial fibrillation (AF) is an abnormal condition of the heart.

In AF, irregular electrical impulses in the walls of the atria interrupt the normal regular impulses from the SAN.

This means that the AVN and thus the ventricles are not recieving a regular electrical impulse.

Irregular impulsing of the ventricles will result in irregular contraction.

This will cause an irregular output of blood into the arteries which will be felt as an irregular pulse.

People with AF often also have narrowing of the valve between the left atrium and the left ventricle. This causes the wall of the left atrium to become thicker. Suggest why.
