How to write an introduction for an essay in Russian

When writing an introduction for any essay, it is essential that you present your topic, state the problem, explain any terminology that you will be using and clarify what you attempt to achieve in your essay. A good sentence for starting your essay is ' в последнее время темя чего-то стала всё более актуальной...' After this, you can state the problem that you intend to discuss. After this, you must define your terminology. The easiest way to do this is by asking the question 'что такой ...' Remember, your 'такой' must agree in gender with the word you wish to define. For example, if we take the word, environment - окружающая среда, the question would be 'что такая окружающая среда'. You now have an option of 3 structures for answering this question. The first is with a '-'. The second is using the verb 'являться', which takes the instrumental. The third is using the construction, 'представлять собой', which takes accusative.
