How to avoid mistakes when using Russian verb colocations?

There are no easy ways to remember the correct way to use certain verbs with certain nouns, so it is best just to memorise them. Although it might not seem important, in reality it will help you to increase your mark and make your essay or speech look more sufficient and developed. The example of Russian verb colocation are the words одевать and надевать. "Надевать" ( to put on)  which should be used with an item of clothing and  "одевать" ( to dress)  with a person, e.g. : "Я надену новое платье" ( I will put on a new dress), BUT " Я одену свою сестру в теплую куртку."  ( I will dress my sister in a warm coat).
