Expand (x + 4) (x - 8)

Multiply the first x term by the second x term (explain that any number times by itself is itself squared) = x^2Multiply the non-x term of the first bracket by the x term of the second bracket and check postives and negatives = 4xMultiply the x term of the first bracket by the non-x term of the second bracket and check postives and negatives = -8xMultiply the non-x term of the first bracket by the non-x term of the second bracket and check postives and negatives = -32Check for like terms (the 4x and -8x are both multiplied by x once and so can be added together) = -4xAdd all the terms together and write out the answer = x^2 -4x -32
