Why was Charles I executed in 1649?

You can break down this essay into three sections: introduction, your reasons why you think Charles I was executed and a conclusion. In your introduction, you should give the reasons why you think Charles was executed and your argument to the essay. The reasons you could give to answer this question could be: Charles himself (look at his personality and his thoughts on the civil war), the politicalisation of the army (look at their growth of power and how they grew to dislike Charles), the emergence of radical groups and ideas (such as the Levellers and the historiography of whether they influenced the army), the Second Civil War (look at the idea of Providence and how Cromwell and the army believed that God had allowed them to win) and finally, Pride's Purge (look at how this event removed the last of the King's support in Parliament and how it led to the Trial and Execution of the King). In your conclusion, you should state your argument (which has been clear throughout your essay) and the main points to back your argument. Lastly, make sure you answer the question.
