How do I write an essay on an unseen question in only 40 minutes?

The essay question is a daunting element of the LNAT. However, do not panic! An essay for the LNAT is not like essays you may have had time to prepare and write in school. Perfection and intense detail is not necessary to do well. The essay is used to observe how you write and how you think, not how many facts about the law you can write down. 40 minutes may seem a short amount of time to prepare and write an essay on something never seen before, however the questions are usually based on a wide and current topic of debate which can lend themselves to a variety of different interpretations and responses. The essay question is something you should take an opinion on. Argue your view on the proposed question, tell the examiner your thoughts and views and why. A strong viewpoint can help construct a strong argument in response to the question. However, it is also useful to express your acknowledgement of other sides of the argument to illustrate a thoughtful and rounded response. Also, using relevant examples throughout your essay can help strengthen your argument. Examples can be legal (if you feel confident using statute or cases) or current affairs e.g Brexit, to explain the point in a broader sense. A useful way to prepare for the essay is to read about current affairs or watch the news, gain an opinion on something and try and use that as an example in an essay.I hope this helps-if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask. Good luck!
