Describe mitosis as part of the cell cycle

Define mitosis: a process of cell division where a single cell splits into two identical daughter cellsWhen does it occur? When the body requires more cells for growth.The overall process has 5 steps.Interphase- DNA is copied so there are two identical full sets of chromosomes. Prophase- Chromosomes condense into X-shaped structures and pair up e.g. chromosome 1 with chromosome 1 and chromosome 2 with chromosome 2. The membrane around the nucleus dissolves. Mitotic spindle extends across the cell between the centrioles as they move to opposite poles of the cell.Metaphase- Chromosomes line up along the equator of the cell. The centrioles are at opposite poles with their mitotic spindle fibres extending from them attaching to each of the sister chromatids Anaphase- Sister chromatids are pulled apart to opposite poles by the mitotic spindle fibres.Telophase- Now at each pole there is a full set of chromosomes that come together and a new membrane forms to create two new nuclei.What is cytokinesis? The pinching of the single cell in the middle resulting in two daughter cells forming each containing a full set of chromosomes.
