Name the lobes of the cerebrum and describe their function briefly. Also describe the function of the cerebellum and the brainstem.

There are 8 lobes in the cerebrum, 4 in each hemisphere. The frontal lobes are involved in conscious thought, planning, emotions, and problem solving. The parietal lobes are responsible for processing of sensory information and involved in spatial orientation of the body. The temporal lobes are important for the comprehension of language, facial and object recognition and memory. The occipital lobes process visual information and identify colours. The cerebellum plays a major role in working with the cerebrum to execute movements and is very important for balance and coordination. The brainstem regulates some of the body’s autonomic systems such as heart rate, temperature, breathing, swallowing and digestion amongst other things.
