Bonding is when two atoms join together; this happens through movements of electrons to help create a full outer shell of electrons. Ionic bonding is when this takes place between a metal and non metal atom. This bonding occurs by one atom giving away electrons and the other accepting the electrons. This then turns them from atoms to ions. One is a positive ion and the other negative; these two ions attract and therefore are held together through strong electrostatic forces. Covalant bonding is between two non metal atoms. They bond by sharing the electrons in order for their outer shell of electrons to be complete. (think of it like they are holding hands to complete the circle)
