How do I convert the following, 0.089, into standard form?

Your final answer should consist of a number between 1 and 10 multiplied by 10 to the power of a particular number. This particular number we will call x. We begin by noting that 0.089 is required to become 8.9 to satisfy the half of the final answer. We look to see how many times the decimal place has moved. In this case it has moved 2 places to the right, so the number has gotten bigger. This means that we need to multiply 8.9 by 10 to the power of -2 because we want the standard form answer to be equivalent to our original number. You can check this by typing into your calculator 8.9 x 10^-2 and it will give you 0.089.
