What is the conditional tense and how do I use it?

The conditional tense is used in German to state what might happen if something else were to happen. It is called the conditional because it is dependant on a certain condition in order to come true.To form this tense all you need is to conjugate the verb würden depending on the subject of the sentence, for exampleich würde - I woulddu würdest - You (sing.) woulder/sie/es würde - He/she/it wouldwir würden - We wouldihr würdet - You (pl.) wouldSie/sie würden - You (f.)/they wouldThis conjugated form is then used together with the main verb in its infinitive which is sent to the end of the clause. For example, if you wanted to say 'I would buy a house', this would become 'Ich würde ein Haus kaufen', with kaufen being the main verb in its infinitive.
