It is important to analyse the main points you are making throughout your essay, in great detail - e.g: "affects the reader" (but how?). Hence, it is imperative to expand your linguistic technique vocabulary, using acronyms such as AFORREST to help remember them - Alliteration, Fact, Opinion, Rhetorical Question, Repetition, Exaggeration, Statistics, Triadic Structure. Also when writing, make sure you give evidence for each point of analysis that you make, your quotations from the text must convey three main points. These are the author's Attitude: which expresses the writer's personal viewpoint, Values: the writer's beliefs or moral stance and Ideas: the writer's viewpoint in relation to the ideas of the time. Make sure you have a well structured essay, which has clear and well thought out arguments, making sure the essay's theme is evident throughout, i.e Love and Loss. Therefore, be careful to keep your essay analytical and comparative, rather than writing as if it were a narrative. Try to compare your characters in more depth, comparing the historical contexts within both plays - e.g. 'Betrayal' and 'The Glass Menagerie'.
