How do I integrate literary terms into my analysis?

In order to integrate literary terms into an analysis you start by following the PEEL paragraph structure. PEEL stands for Point, Evidence, Effect and Link. Once this has been understood, the literary terms are to be applied in the “Point” or the “Evindence” part of the paragraph and are to be elaborated on in the “Effect” section. An example of this would be: “Shakespeare uses a metaphor in his sonnet, in order to emphasise the theme of loneliness and darkness.” This would be the first sentence of the paragraph (the “Point) and has introduced the literary term. In the following sentence, one should expand on the metaphor and insert the passage of the sonnet that depicts the metaphor as an example in the “Evidence”. The “Evidence” shows that what has been said in the “Point” is true and that there is an understanding of, in this case, the word metaphor. The effect of these literary terms is then elaborated in the “Effect” part and linked back to the thesis in the “Link”.
With this structure, it is easy to integrate literary terms, as well as demonstrating ones knowledge and being able to expand on them. It is easy to show off the literary terms you know and make them the basis of your analysis, along with expanding on the points in the themes you wanted to make. This is the way to impress your examiner and/or teacher!
