How do I structure an essay answer to a longer question e.g. "Assess the success of a regeneration scheme you have studied"?

The key thing to do first is to highlight the command word(s) in the question and decide how to structure your answer. Here, it is asking you to "assess the success" so you want to ensure you can provide positive and negative impacts, and analyse them to come to an overall answer as to whether you think it was a success or not. You must also remember that, with these questions, there is no right or wrong answer as long as you justify, analyse and use your case studies well. Also, avoid sitting on the fence - examiners prefer answers that argue a case/side.The topic for this question is "regeneration" and you will have covered both rural and urban case studies in HICs and LICs - pick a case study that you feel comfortable analysing and that can provide a good amount of content/depth for you to answer well.
Once you have decided on your case study, write a brief introduction, signposting what you will do (more for your sake than the marker's!) before beginning your first paragraph. Give a summary of the history of the project and who the stakeholder's are in the regeneration. In your second paragraph, you should then detail the impacts of the scheme (think economic, social, cultural, political and environmental) remembering to include facts and statistics, including small-scale local ones that demonstrate thorough knowledge. Once you have done that, it should be clear whether you think it was a success overall or not, but write a short conclusion which summarises your main points and comes to a final answer.
