What is the difference between "ser" and "estar"

A general way of differentiating the two verbs is by using "ser" for permanent states and "estar" for more temporary ones.
For example:"estoy aburrido" means "I'm bored" - which is a temporary feeling"soy aburrido" means "I'm boring" - which is a more permanent character trait
Another example:"estar moreno"- means to be tanned, which is temporary appearance"ser moreno"- means to be dark skinned, which is a permanent trait
The main things you need to remember:Ser: Occupation, Nationality, Hour/date, Place of OriginEstar: Geographical location, State/Condition, Progressive Tenses (-ing, "ando..")
