Solve 2(x+4)=4x-6 for x

The first thing to do is to multiply out the brackets. You treat each side of the equation separately. You do this by multiplying each value in the bracket by the number outside the bracket.2x + 24 = 2x+8The next step is to put all the numbers on one side of the equation and the x values on the other. This is called collecting like terms. To move the numbers from each side you complete the opposite operation, so +2x would need -2x from both sides and -6 would be +6.2x=14To find x, both sides need to be divided by 2 to get 1x.x=7
