Explain how vegetation can bring stability to low energy coastlines

Vegetation can be very important along coastlines bringing stability especially to low energy coastlines. Vegetation can be important to stabilizing coasts because they allow flocculation which is the binding sediment together in bigger clusters making them stay put where they are as they become heavier and harder to be transported by wind or water- plants and vegetation also stabilize sediment in water because the plants act as a protective layer over the sediment in the water hence protecting the sediment from current speeds and reducing the erosion of the sediment in the area. Vegetation also stabilizes low energy coastlines because they can help reduce wave speeds when in water which in return reduce the erosive power of the wave eg mangroves, their roots help to dissipate wave energy slowing them down and hence provide stability and also encourages deposition as the slower the wave the less energy they have to carry the sediment.
--> this is an example of an introduction for the answer to this question since it gives a general overview but much more should be covered when answering this question
