If you don't get into medical school what will you do?

In this question the interviewer is exploring both your motivation and commitment to medicine. Medicine is a competitive degree and so it is important that you have considered alternative options and the interviewer is looking for maturity of thought with other pathways you could take. I would say something like, "I know that being unsuccessful in applying to medical school is a very real possibility so I have thought about what happens if I don't get in. I would really love to be a doctor so I think I would take a gap year and reapply for medicine. If I were unsuccessful again, then I would want to still be in a field where I could help people so I would apply to study Nursing or to be a paramedic. This would allow me to have a similar job with a lot of reward and I would be able to use the same skills that I would use as a doctor".
