How much subject knowledge do I include in my personal statement?

When writing a personal statement, it is very easy to feel overwhelmed by all the topics that you know you need to include- work experience, volunteering, achievements, hobbies and medical interest. In trying to fit all of this in, it is easy for your statement to lack a smooth flow and sound disjointed. I recommend trying writing about a small area of interest you have which you can relate to your work experience, which you may have studied slightly in school. Do not waste too many words talking about a topic that is likely to be in the medical syllabus which the admissions team have probably studied. Instead always focus on the way in which you carried out the research, what you learnt from it and how you applied this. In my interviews, I was asked very few scientific questions and instead quizzed on the personal skills questions like my teamwork and ability to multitask. Therefore, talk about any extra work or reading you have done in terms of the skills it has given you as this is much more personal too.
