What process is known as cell 'eating'and give one example of that process relating to the human immune system?

Cells need to eat and drink, just like me and you. The process where cells ingest other cells or foreign material is called PHAGOCYTOSIS. The process itself is very complicated and you don’t need to know the details. One very simple and very common example of phagocytosis is the white blood cell ‘’eating’’ a bacteria that could potentially harm your body.

A student cut a piece of potato into 10 discs, each 1mm thick and with a 10mm diameter. He then placed them in a beaker of deionised water. After a couple of days, they had increased in size- both thickness and diameter. Explain why this is the case.
