How should I structure an English Literature essay?

The most important thing to start with is the question. Underline all the key words that you can find, including instructions such as 'describe' or 'explore' and any key themes or characters that you need to focus on. Your structure should usually be broken down into these following sections:IntroductionParagraph 1Paragraph 2Paragraph 3ConclusionMake sure that you introduce a new point in each paragraph, and at the end of each paragraph always link your argument back to the key words that you underlined, to show that you are answering the question. I would usually recommend writing the introduction and conclusion at the end, after you have finished your three paragraphs. That way, you can make sure you sum up what you are going to do at the start, and summarize at the end, coming to a final judgement in your closing sentence.
