One strength of a laboratory experiment is they allow a high level of control over the procedure so all participants will witness the same standardised procedure. This means the procedure can be repeated on other witnesses and so can therefore be tested for reliabillity as all extraneous variables which could affect witnesses are controlled in laboratory experiments.A weakness of laboratory experiments are that they lack ecological validity and mundane realism compared to a real life witness situation. Therefore the behaviour of the witness may not mirror the behaviour of a real life witness as the incident witnessed is not natural as it was previously expected.
