Explain what an eco town is, including an example

Ecotown's are a government scheme initiated in 2007, with the plan to build 10 eco towns by 2020. Their role is to ease the adorability crisis and develop more places to live that are eco-friendly, whilst also creating thousands of new jobs for the community. Ecotown's are built on brownfield sites and contain between 5,000 - 20,000 new homes, of which 30-50% of are affordable housing. The government also came up with rules that the towns would have to follow, such as the fact that they would have demonstrate excellence in at least one aspect of environmental sustainability, integrate green space to encourage biodiversity in the area and boast (as far as possible) zero carbon emissions.
An example of an eco town is Elmsbrook north west of Bicester where 6000 new eco-homes will be built. The first 300 houses are being released in October 2018. The Ecotown will include a primary school, community centre, eco pub and an eco-business and retail centre, creating a village feel and providing important social hubs.
