What is an ionic bond? Give an example of one.

An ionic bond is the transfer of electrons from one atom to another to obtain a stable outer shell. This only happens between a metal and a non metal. For example, magnesium would transfer 2 electrons to an oxygen atom to create magnesium oxide.
