How would I introduce and explain the idea of sustainable living in French?

This is a topic that is becoming increasingly popular in both written and speaking French examinations. The basis for the structure of the answer can often be reapplied to a variety of topics including certain cultures, aspects of religion, scientific experiments and many more. Of course, detail can vary depending on whether the question is to be answered orally or written. I will explain how I would go about teaching this to be answered orally. First of all, I would ask the student who they are addressing and what pronouns would be appropriate. Vous would be preferable in most formal circumstances and if running through the possibilities is helpful I will do so. Teaching classmates has allowed me to come up with rhymes to jog the memory. Secondly, brainstorming a few general ideas surrounding the topic, limiting to perhaps 3 main points as overloading is not necessary and examiners tend to prefer a few well detailed points that you have explained clearly than many rushed ones. I would be able to provide them with some specific terminology and how it would be used in a sentence. For example ecologique and recyclage. Of course, under the pressure of time this may not be possible so taking it slow, pausing when appropriate is recommended, even using French ‘thinking time’ phrases like et bien and even repeating the question at the beginning of your answer. I would be able to help them decide their use of verbs and give them tips on how to recognise the tense that should be used. By keeping a conversational flow, I can work on fluency and pronunciation. This is particularly important in an A level speaking exam
