Describe two reasons why Adolph Hitler was able to consolidate power so quickly between January 1933 and July 1933. [4 marks]

AQA example responses ask for students to 'demonstrate knowledge of the key features and characteristics of the periods studied (AO1a) [and] Demonstrate understanding of the key features and characteristics of the periods studied (AO1b)' and for students to achieve 'Level 2 Answers' (3-4 marks) they are required to demonstrate solid knowledge and understanding. In top-level answers I would expect to see a short introductory sentence followed by two developed answering points. For example:From his appointment to Chancellor of Germany in January 1933, Adolf Hitler quickly started to consolidate power through a number of methods between January 1933 and July 1933. For instance, one way in which Hitler consolidated power so quickly was through the overwhelming majority vote to introduce the Enabling Act on 23rd March 1933. This Act effectively gave power to Hitler's Cabinet to bypass the Reichstag to introduce legislation, meaning that Hitler and the Nazi Party could act without having to rely on Reichstag approval. Another way in which Hitler was able to consolidate power so quickly was through banning other political parties on 14th July 1933, since this political action meant that the Nazi party had no formal opposition and could run unopposed.
