Fahima buys 2 packets of bread rolls costing £1.50 for each packet 1 bottle of ketchup costing £1.60 3 packets of sausages Fahima pays with a £10 note. She gets 30p change. Fahima works out that one packet of sausages costs £2.30 Is Fahima right?

Let's denote the price of sausages as S as it's the only unknown.Let's use simple algebra to solve this.To find the total price of all of the items she purchased ( i.e. the value), we multiply price by the quantity:2(1.50)+1 (1.60)+3(S) (1)She paid £10 and received £0.30 change. To find the total cost we subtract the change she received from the amount she paid.Value of items:10-0.30= 9.70 (2)Therefore now that we found the value of the items we equate equation (1) to (2)2(1.50)+1(1.60)+3(S)=9.703+1.60+3S = 9.704.60+3S=9.703S=9.70-4.603S=5.10S= 5.10/3S=1.70Therefore, the price of each sausage is £1.70. Fatima is wrong.
