Explain what sociologists mean by primary socialisation.

Primary socialisation occurs when a child learns the values, attitudes and beliefs of their particular culture. This usually occurs in the family, for example, a child will be told off by their parent for stealing a toy from another child. This is primary socialisation instilling the child with the societal rule that you should not steal.
