How should I get started on writing my personal statement?

Writing your personal statement is a vital part of your university applications, and getting started on it can be challenging. However, once started, it is not as hard as it seems!
I would highly recommend really researching your course before writing the statement. Knowing what you would actually be studying at university makes it easier to focus your writing, and more importantly, can make you certain about what course you want to study. This is also important because some courses expect you to have done extra-curricular, such as work experience.
Having done this, make a list of everything that you think could be relevant to studying that course. This could include academic achievements, volunteering, work experience- anything that shows that you would be a great student to have at a university, both academically and in terms of university life. All that's left after that is to connect the dots between what you have done and what you want to do!
