What is the main function of the Schwann cell?

Schwann cells are found wrapped along the axons of some of the neurones of the peripheral nervous system (PNS).They secrete a lipid-based substance known as myelin, forming the myelin sheath. The myelin sheath is important for the electrical insulation of the axon.
