What's the difference between 'saber' and 'conocer'?

Brilliant question! Although in English, 'saber' and 'conocer' both mean 'to know', we must decide which one of the two verbs to use in Spanish depending on the context, and what we 'know'.'Saber' is used for facts that we know, or skills that we have learned. For example, we use this verb when talking about information that we have remembered or memorised, as well as when we know how to swim, draw or speak a language. On the other hand, we use 'conocer' when we are familiar or acquainted with something; more specifically with a person, place or thing.
