What is the main difference between a solictor and a barrister

While they are both lawyers, the main role of a barrister is to speak in court and be an advocate on behalf of the client, a barrister will petition the case of the client to the judge. A solictor handles much more of the behind the scenes, they will deal with the paper work, most of the interaction with the client, writing of letters, drafting wills, conveyancing, e.t.c. They will pass on their work to the barrister for the barrister to complete the case by speaking in court so that the judge may give the final ruling, this is only if that paticular case is going to trial, not all cases go to trial. However, a solicitor may also speak in court if they successfully gain the Certificate Of Advocacy.
