How to write a jaw dropping personal statement!

Let us imagine the person going to read your personal statement, put yourself in their shoes, if you have already read 200 personal statements, will what you are writing to them be just like the rest or will you captivate his or her attention. Wrap your personal statement around a narrative. You want them to know the skills you have acquired from different experiences and why you think these skills are essential for the degree you want to do. Create an interesting story with the things you have done. Avoid phrases such as “from when I came out of my mother's belly I have always loved Law," or " I have known since I was 5 years old". In fact, avoid using the words "always" and "passion", when applying to a top university, these words are clichés in this context. Instead, what you want to do is to show the university you have the passion instead of telling them that you have the passion. Show them! What work experience have you done in the area? What particular areas interest and why do they interest you? When you did this work experience, what did you see, touch, smell and hear. Engage with your reader to produce a captivating narrative, put yourself in their shoes. Did the work experience help to confirm you career choice? If you are applying for law, is there a specific case that interests you, why does the outcome of the case interest you, what are your opinions of the outcome, what would you have decided if you were in the judge’s shoes? How do you keep up with current legal issues? Any recent legal issues that intrigue you? What societies are you currently a part of, do you have a part time job, do you play an instrument, if you do how do you balance the extracurricular with the academic? Again, you want to engage with the reader. Are there any skills acquired from your A- levels that are essential for your degree? And finally, what do you think will make you a good law student. Show them why you should be chosen to study at their university above someone else who also has the academic requirements. Why are you not boring and bland?
