What is the difference between mitosis and meiosis?

Mitosis is the process used by normal body cells for everyday replication to maintain a healthy body, for example tissue regeneration. On the other hand, meiosis is the process whereby the gametes, sperm and eggs, are formed for sexual reproduction. There are several key differences that can be summarized as below:Mitosis produces two identical daughter cells from the mother cell whereas meiosis produces four genetically unique daughter cells. The daughter cells produced by mitosis are diploid (have 23 pairs/ 46 chromosomes) whereas the daughter cells produced by meiosis are haploid (have 23 chromosomes)Mitosis involves one cell division step whereas meiosis involves two steps.
