It is hard to write a personal statement, it's not something that's hardwired into our system since we were little, then suddenly you are here trying to apply for jobs, sixth form, and university, which all need a personal statement. It is exactly what it says, a statement, not an essay, you have one shot to impress wherever you are applying, and they go through many a day, so writing your whole life or including clichés like "I wanted to be a doctor all my life" won't impress anyone, and they probably seen it a thousand times. It's all about structure, and making it about you, my personal tips would be to write your first paragraph on why you want to do medicine, then follow 2 paragraphs with your work experience and any extra educational aspects, such as any Olympiads you entered (be selective with this and include work experiences you can talk with confidence in the interview). Then a paragraph showing you are not just someone who studies all the time and you do have hobbies, i.e. sports and finally a conclusion. make sure your conclusion and why you want to do medicine get straight to point. because drawing the reader in from the start is what makes you stand out. Personally for me, what worked out was talking about a personal incident that happened to me which interested me in the idea of medicine and what I did to find out more about it, which meant I talked about my work experiences and volunteering, and also what I wanted to do in my gap year (if you are a gap year student.)Hope this short summary on personal statement has been helpful. Goodluck with your application!
