What's a better way to evaluate research than just looking at the sample/method? (methodological evaluation)

One way in which you can begin to organise your thoughts regarding evaluation of a piece of research or a theory is to think of the acronym DREAMS. This can be used on almost any piece of research or theory as a guide to structure your paragraphs. D - Determinism vs Free will - does the research or theory allow the individual to believe they have control over their own behaviour? Why is this the case? R- Reductionism vs Holism - does the research/theory reduce behaviour down to simple basic components e.g. nature and the influence of genes and inheritance or does it provide a wider viewpoint in which the person is looked at as a whole considering all aspects including social and cultural backgrounds?E- Evidence - does the research or theory have further evidence to support or contradict the current study/theory? If so why does it support/contradict? A- Application - does the theory provide important application to the real world? are there practical applications? is the research or theory an important part of applied psychology and why? M- Methodological - does the research or theory use correct methods with high generalization? If so, why is this a good thing? If not, what is the issue, the sample number, or type, the method, or the procedure? (relating to ethics) S- Scientific validity - does the research or theory use objective measurable techniques that provide factual truthful findings? If so this will increase the respect of the research/theory by scientists and the public - increasing support. If not, why is this an issue? - link to subjectivity.
