Explain an effect of the environment on physiological processes.

Environment is described as any internal and external surrounding, an example would be a stressful environment. Stress is caused by an increase in the hormone cortisol. While physiological processes are any biological processes. One study that demonstrates the effect of a stressful environment on physiological processes was conducted by Brady et al(1958). In this study two monkey were given electric shocks, there was an executive monkey which was able to determine when the electric shocks were given, and there was a yoked monkey who only received the electric shocks. After 23 days, the executive monkey died of gastric ulcer, but the yoked monkey was completely healthy. In conclusion, the study conducted by Brady(1958) demonstrates the effect of a stressful environment on physiological process because the executive monkey died due to the stress of determining the shocks.
