Make y the subject of this formula: 9x = p(8 + y) + 5

When rearranging an equation, the most important thing to remember is that whatever you do to one side of the equation you must do to the other. In order to make y the subject you want to isolate it so that it is on its own on one side of the equation. You isolate y by inversing any other items on this side of the equation (meaning: +5 becomes - 5, xp becomes /p, etc.)of the thing that you are moving from one side to the other. So for this question 9x = p(8 + y) + 5 you can start by taking away 5 from both sides which leaves you with 9x - 5 = p(8 + y). Then you divide both sides by p which leave you with (9x - 5)/p = 8 + y. Then you take away 8 from both sides which leave you with ((9x - 5)/p) - 8 = y.
