In the past, when I have helped students prepare for GCSE and A Level French examinations, I have helped them construct sentences that introduce different tenses/that include complex grammatical structures that allow them to meet the criteria for the highest marks. These sentences are usually fairly general and easy to adapt to the question. Once the student has learnt these phrases, it is useful to go through the bullet points in the question which set out what they must include (see above), and see where they can fit in these phrases. We often plan the essay together and the student will then write up the essay afterwards, which I can then mark.
